THE OAKLAND CAMERA CLUB MEETS AT ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 5301 HATCHERY RD., WATERFORD, MI (north of M-59 & Crescent Lake Rd.) ATTENTION MEMBERS: Beginning in January 2026, as a trial, the Oakland Camera Club WILL MEET ONLY ON THE 3RD TUESDAY EACH MONTH except for the months of July and August. PRINT MEETINGS ON 1ST TUESDAYS ARE SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. A combined print and digital competition will be held on the 3rd Tuesday. Image submission date deadlines for these competitions remain the same as posted under the Competitions section of our site. A final decision on whether to continue this trial program will be made by a member vote by mid Summer.
Welcome to the Oakland Camera Club. Our goal is to share our photographic knowledge and skills with our members. Our club has been in existence for over 60 years. We are also affiliated with the Greater Detroit Camera Club Council (GDCCC) which is comprised of 12 clubs including Windsor, Canada, Lapeer, and Toledo, Ohio. The GDCCC has been in existence for over 80 years.
We have various other programs, as well as occasional scheduled photo outings. Beginners receive OCC ribbons for their wins in the monthly competitions: 1st, 2nd, 3rd or HM's. Our print competitions have two categories, Color and Monochrome, as well as a digital competition with four categories, Color Creative (also called Altered Reality), Color General, Monochrome General and Nature. We also have assignments which change monthly. We divide the groups into 2 levels: Beginner and Advanced. We have an End-of-the-Year Banquet in April or May where results of the Best of the Best previous year images receive awards.
There are GDCCC competitions where we compete against the other clubs in the council. During the year there are five print and five digital competitions. Five different clubs will host these events and judge the other clubs entries. The hosting club does not enter images when they judge. At the end of January, the GDCCC also has an End-of-the-Year Banquet where all winners from these five competitions will compete AGAIN for the Best of the Best. At this banquet, you will get a chance to win a medal or medals along with HM ribbons. It's a fun night and a great time to see wonderful work from your fellow photographers.
Our meetings are always open to the public. You are welcome to come as often as you like but please note, that if you want to compete, you have to join. So...if you like taking pictures, if you want to improve your photographic skills, if you want to meet others with the same interests, and if you'd like ideas on when and where to photograph, Oakland Camera Club is the place to be.
Our dues are $25 a year. Please do come and visit - we'd love seeing you!!
