Oakland Camera Club

The goal of the Oakland Camera Club is to share our photographic knowledge and skills with our members. Our club has been in existence for more than 60 years.  Each meeting includes two competitions, Digital and Print. Each member may submit up to two entries in each category, listed below. Members are divided into two levels, Beginner and Advanced, based on points earned by entering images and earning honors.

Members receive OCC ribbons for their wins in the monthly competitions: 1st, 2nd, 3rd or Honorable Mention (HM).  Print competitions have two categories: Color and Monochrome.  Digital competitions have four categories: Creative (also called Altered Reality), Color General, Monochrome General, and Nature.  An additional “Special Assignment” category changes monthly and challenges photographers to “think outside the box”.  We also offer various other programs, as well as occasional scheduled photo outings.

An End-of-Year Banquet is held in May where results of the Best of the Best previous year’s images receive awards. 

Oakland Camera Club is affiliated with the Greater Detroit Camera Club Council (GDCCC) which is comprised of 9 clubs in the greater Detroit area, Lapeer, Windsor, Canada, and Toledo, Ohio. The GDCCC has been in existence for more than 80 years.   GDCCC also sponsors an annual International Salon where people from all over the world submit entries for awards.  

OCC Members’ images are also entered in GDCCC competitions, where we compete against other clubs in the Council.  During the year there are five print and five digital Council competitions.  Five different clubs host these events and judge the other clubs’ entries. In January, the GDCCC holds an End-of-Year Banquet where all winners from these five competitions compete AGAIN for the Best of the Best.  At this banquet, members can win medals, trophies, or HM ribbons. The event is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to see the wonderful work of fellow photographers.

Our meetings are always open to the public.  You are welcome to come as often as you like but please note that if you want to compete, you have to join. (Our dues are a bargain at $25 a year.)
